IODE/OBIS is seeking a OBIS/eDNA Scientific Consultant.

Among the many biodiversity data types, OBIS is pioneering the open sharing of DNA-based observations, particularly those derived from environmental DNA (eDNA) metabarcoding. These approaches are rapidly gaining momentum and are increasingly being applied to generate monitoring data for decision-making. However, technical and infrastructural barriers still limit the ability of monitoring and conservation authorities to adopt eDNAbased methods. In addition, the infrastructure and capacity required for standardized data management and the generation of comparable data across the (European) landscape are still lacking, hindering the efficient distribution and reuse of eDNA-derived biodiversity information. UNESCO/OBIS is currently involved in two projects that are advancing the implementation and operationalization of eDNA-based monitoring.

The “eDNA Scientific Consultant” needs to support the implementation of the eDNAqua-Plan  and the eDNA Expeditions II  related to the operationalization of eDNA methods and data for biodiversity monitoring, this for a 11 month period on a full time contract.

Applications are open until 18 December 2025 (17h CET)
